NOW ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS! Contact us to book your pet's next appointment.
We all want your pet to spend their last moments as calmly and comfortably as possible. No matter the reason for euthanasia, we’ll be there to support you through this difficult time with the utmost respect and sensitivity.
There are a number of situations in which euthanasia may be needed: terminal illness, a serious accident, loss of independence, dangerous behaviour, etc. The veterinarian always bases the decision to proceed with euthanasia on the animal’s quality of life and level of suffering.
There are two steps to the euthanasia procedure. You can be present if you want to stay with your pet until the very end. First, the vet injects the animal with a combination of painkillers to calm them. The medication will take effect ten to fifteen minutes later. The vet then administers the second injection. This is the euthanizing agent (a strong dose of morphine). The animal falls asleep in a matter of seconds and passes away in a few minutes or less when their heart stops beating.
It is always preferable to call us to make an appointment so we can set aside the necessary time for you. However, in an emergency, you can come to the clinic without scheduling ahead. We will do our best to minimize your wait time.
You can have commemorative jewellery, a paw print or a customized urn made. A number of options and models are available for your preferences and budget.
